Rebecca has 5 years of experience working in writing and engagement. She pulls her background in visual art into all of her work, using her creativity and broad skillset to develop engaging graphic and written material, plan and facilitate stakeholder activities, and diligently document the engagement process to reflect the interests of the community she’s working with as well as the efforts of the project team.
Rebecca synthesizes voluminous bodies of feedback to extract key concepts and values to bring into the next phase, employing her experience in copyediting, digital photography, and document design to produce clear reports and summaries for a range of audiences. Recent work includes visioning workshops, design charrettes, focus groups, interviews, public surveys, and open houses.
Rebecca found her way into urban planning through her interest in public and site-specific art, which she studied while earning her B.A. at Hamilton College and supported first-hand while volunteering at a non-profit community art space in her old neighborhood. Prior to earning her master’s degree in Urban and Environmental Planning at UVA’s School of Architecture, Rebecca built her strong set of digital engagement skills while working as a content marketing and editorial associate for a culinary and travel brand in New York City.
There is no logic that can be superimposed on the city; people make it, and it is to them, not buildings, that we must fit our plans.
