Shoreline Citywide Sustainability Strategy
We led development of the City of Shoreline’s environmental sustainability strategy supporting council resolutions and work plan goals for environmentally sustainable community development. The strategy included framework policies and objectives; maps and descriptions of green infrastructure opportunities; criteria for environmentally sustainable decision making; assessments of City policies, codes and programs with recommendations for improvement; and measures for tracking progress and strategy. In addition to public hearings and Planning Commission and City Council review sessions, the public was engaged through public events, newsletter articles, the City’s website and “community conversations” featuring short, rotating conversations and participatory exercises on sustainability. This project won the American Planning Association Washington State Chapter 2009 Award for Sustainability, and the City of Shoreline has implemented several of the recommendations.
