South Seattle Neighborhoods Design Charrettes

We advised and led facilitation for two sets of three workshops focused on updates to neighborhood plans for Othello, North Beacon Hill and North Rainier Valley in the City of Seattle. The charrettes were designed to ensure that communities around new light rail stations had an opportunity to guide neighborhood specific planning while addressing core values and elements of the Comprehensive Plan. To effectively engage multilingual community members we developed a hands-on, participant-driven exercise that used building blocks and aerial maps to show the scale of proposed build out in a clear, easy-to-understand way. Interpreters were actively engaged in the workshops all day, enabling traditionally underserved populations to participate to the fullest extent. Discussions focused primarily on zoning and density, public safety and amenities and traffic and parking.
