Safe Streets & Safe Highways

3 Square Blocks provided strategic outreach support as part of the Consultant Team for the City of Lake Forest Park’s Safe Streets and subsequent Safe Highways projects. Safe Streets focused on surface streets to make them safer for pedestrians and cyclists, and increase safe connections to transit and amenities such as Town Center, the Burke-Gilman and Interurban Trails, parks, and schools. Safe Highways focused on the state highways within city limits—Bothell Way NE (SR 522) and  Ballinger Way NE (SR 104)—to explore ways to make them safer, more accommodating to transit, and more walkable and bikeable.

In addition to working with Sound Transit, King County Metro, and the City of Lake Forest Park to identify priority infrastructure and wayfinding improvements, 3 Square Blocks led the formation of a Technical Advisory Committee, conducted stakeholder interviews with business owners and residents, and planned and facilitated a series of public workshops and open houses. We synthesized and summarized workshop, open house, and online feedback from community members on the types and locations of projects needed to improve safety.

After the successful completion of these studies, the City hired 3 Square Blocks to guide the community through a visioning process for future development in the city’s core. Read about our work on the Town Center Vision.
