RapidRide G Line (Madison St BRT)

3 Square Blocks provided community engagement leadership for the planning and design phases of Seattle’s Madison Street Bus Rapid Transit Project (now RapidRide G) and is currently preparing to support the construction phase. Our role has included creating public outreach plans, identifying property contacts along the corridor, door-to-door outreach, conducting one-on-one interviews, coordinating small group briefings, staffing open houses, and distributing outreach materials. Our 80+ contacts range from Downtown high rises and First Hill hospitals to small business owners who speak English as a second language and require translation services. We supported early implementation of the Spring Street portion of the project through notification of work to change right of way uses and by responding to constituent concerns. Currently, we are preparing to support the construction phase by closely coordinating with impacted stakeholders to communicate project status updates and help to mitigate disruptions. Throughout the project we have successfully maintained relationships with the properties along the future bus corridor despite ongoing changes in staffing, management, and ownership over the past five years. We keep rigorous records of contacts and comments to help SDOT understand how the Madison Street corridor functions, how people navigate the corridor, and what stakeholder needs are. We have also adapted to significant changes in the project schedule and worked with the project team to develop messaging around these changes.
